the Show: Mission: Empower women of Color to explore their passions and live life to the fullest through inspired and thought provoking radio programming, on-line content and live workshops.
Celebrate positive images of African American women in arts and entertainment. Honor sisterhood among women of all ages, races and social-economic status. Encourage an open dialogue among men and women of color to foster an understanding and appreciation of relationships and family values. Promote healthy physical, mental and emotional lifestyle choices. Empower women to take an active role in transforming the social, political and financial conditions in our communities.
In 2005 while on maternity leave, Shawna Renee noticing a void in Talk Radio programming created Cocoa Mode, a weekly program designed to meet the needs of African American women looking for a place to discuss the issues that mattered most in their community. For nine months Shawna Renee presented Cocoa Mode with the help of dozens of experts in various fields including health, finance and beauty on XM 169, The Power. In January, 2008, an internal restructuring of The Power left Shawna Renee without a radio home. She decided to use her time off the air to restructure Cocoa Mode in a way that would allow the millions of women around the world without Satellite Radio to benefit from the wealth of information presented on the show. With the help of a devoted team of “Cocoas” and the support of her family and friends, Shawna launched Cocoa Mode Presents... A network of on-air, on-line and in person programs and workshops designed to empower women to create the lives they deserve. Cocoa Mode Presents .. Cocoa in the Eagles Nest: Tune in every Friday at 10:00am on the Joe Madison show (XM Channel 169), beginning June 1, 2008. Cocoa’s Corner, Shawna Renee’s daily blog featuring the people, places and products necessary to create a life of “inspired flyness.” Cocoa Mode Radio: weekly podcasts featuring men and women who challenge the way we view ourselves and the community around us Cocoa Mode Live: A series of forums workshops and forums featuring experts in health, wellness, finance, career and relationships.
About Shawna Renee: For nearly 15 years Shawna Renee has dedicated her life to a career in radio. She started as a producer for the top rated African American talk show, The Joe Madison show. Before long she was hired as the Programming Assistant for WOLB-AM in Baltimore. It was during this time that she learned the ins and outs of Talk Radio. She went on to produce and co-host the #1 rated Morning Drive program at Urban powerhouse WERQ-FM. In 2000 Shawna Renee moved to Washington DC where she hosted Love Talk and Slow Jams on WPGC-FM for a number of months before moving on to Satellite Radio. Shawna Renee was hired as Program Director of Worldzone, the World Music Channel heard on XM Satelltie Radio. After a successful three years with WorldZone, Shawna Renee was chosen to create and program the worlds first Global Hip Hop Channel, FLAVA, heard on Worldspace Satellite Radio, where she was also an on-air personality. Throughout her career in music radio she never lost sight of her goal to host her own Radio Talk Show. In early 2006, Shawna took a break from radio to give birth to her 1 st son. It was during this time she began researching information on natural beauty and wellness for both her benefit and that of her newborn son. It wasn't long before she discovered a way to combine her love of radio and her passion for products…. Introducing Cocoa Mode.
